I moved to Fort Lauderdale from Las Vegas at the beginning of April, 2014. My two little Coton de Tulear sisters were 15 months old at the time. They had both been "trained" in Las Vegas with electronic collars for about a year. Choosing a trainer using his method of training was very poor judgement on my part. The bottom line was that not only was their training not very good, but I am thoroughly convinced the collars were causing them pain every time I pressed the controllers. They never stopped pulling on their leases on a walk, they never heeded anything I said unless I shocked them, and then I found out that contrary to what I was told at the beginning, that they would probably have to wear the electronic collars for years to come. To make matters worse, the smaller dog, Sugar, was bitten on her front paw by one of my neighbor's attack trained German Shepherds. Their dog jumped up over 7 feet from their property line and bit Sugar's paw which was on my property. As a result, after an emergency surgery, and months of healing, even though Sugar healed successfully, she developed a fear related aggressiveness when ever she saw a dog bigger than herself. To make matters worse, when ever Sugar saw a big dog and started barking hysterically, it would fuel a similar behavior in her more docile sister "Sweetie." This was a disaster situation. Anna Nylander, my new trainer in Fort Lauderdale, was faced with this situation when she started working with Sweetie and Sugar. The challenge was to undo all the damage caused by poor training and the electronic collars and to retrain the dogs almost from scratch. Anna uses a rewards based training approach. The first step was to throw the electronic collars in the trash! It took Anna (and me under her guidance), about 2 months to accomplish a small miracle! While she was able to elicit excellent responses, a good part of her work was to "train" me. What a change. I can walk both my dogs now on a "loose leash." I can take them to stores where they behave perfectly. I can leave them at doggie camp where they play with big and small dogs alike. They come when I call them. They sit and stay when I tell them. They "place" where I tell them. There's more but it's all related to the dogs responding to positive motivation and not shocking them to pieces. These dogs are all bred to defend their owners and their property. They don't like strangers coming on to their turf. They are naturally territorially aggressive. But now, because of Anna's training of them and me, I am able to introduce them to strangers and show them how safe they are. I can have guests on my property and in my house and the dogs will just love them up. To sum it all up, if you want to train your dog, whether from puppyhood or to correct previous poor or unsuccessful training, you can't do better than Anna!!! If you would like more information from me, please don't hesitate to call. I live here in Fort Lauderdale on Las Olas Isles. I can be reached on my cell phone. 714 330-2040.

Both of our Pointers have gone through Puppy Kindergarten and Basic Obedience Training at the Canine Academy. Anna Carina has spent both time and energy helping our puppies become socialized and obedient. She has also been working on Distraction Training with them, and the results are obvious. Anna Carina is an exceptional trainer. Both our puppies not only love her, but have become obedient dogs with her help. I would like to recommend the Canine Academy to anyone who wants to improve their dogs social skills, obedience level or just overall companionship of their dog. We NEVER worry about our dogs at school and they cant wait to go! We love Anna Carina and the Canine Academy! Hi Anna Carina!

My Experience with Anna Carina Nylander at the Canine Academy My six month old Bernese Mountain dog changed when I went on a two week vacation. Prior to going away he loved everybody. Rolle stayed with a house sitter at our home, that he loved, but when we returned he was very timid. He was so afraid of new people that he was becoming a fear biter. I take him to work every day so this was not a good situation. I called several places and was most comfortable with Anna Carina. We went to see her and she confirmed that if the dog was not given some kind of training I would have a big problem. Rolle started seeing Anna Carina several times a week. It took a few months, but he became much more accepting of strangers. He loved playing with other dogs which gave him a lot more confidence. He learned to feel safe when he was in our presence around strangers. When Anna Carina started with him, he would totally freak when he walked through a crowded parking lot. After several months he could be walked and wouldnt cower or bark. Anna Carina also trained him on basic obedience commands. He will sit, stay, etc when commanded. He will never be an outgoing dog, but in our presence he is totally well behaved. I now have confidence in him. He will make friends with new people, but on his terms. Anna Carina is just wonderful with our dog. I think he loves her even more than he loves us. We are continuing with some basic obedience classes because I hate to separate Rolle from her. I would recommend Anna Carina to anyone with a puppy or a dog with problems.

We have TWO BOXERS, that's right, TWO! Both Charlize and Diesel have been enrolled in the Canine Academy since they were a few months old. They have benefited tremendously from their consistent training! If I say "Who wants to go to camp?" they are right on point and ready to go. Their remarkable behavior is noticed in public and they are always praised on their demeanor. The past 3 years has been a wise investment for our family. Anna Carina and the Canine Academy have made Charlize and Diesel much happier, in return making us MUCH happier!

I don't usually write reviews but in this case I am compelled to let others know what Anna did for my dog and subsequently me. I rescued Bentley as a 2 year old. He's a terrier mix. Never was housetrained, never walked on a leash, he was underweight and very anxious. Foolishly I thought taking care of him would set him straight. Wrong. I hired a trainer for a stiff price and that went nowhere. All she did was give him treats and he learned to pick up anything on the ground. After that failure I finally met Anna. She immediately assessed him as anxious but not aggressive. She told me she needed to work with him, train him and carefully introduce him to other dogs in a safe environment. This woman took him to Petsmart, pet supermarket.......and always kept him safe and calm. She stimulated his brain and made him confident. He is a different dog. He has always been loving but now he is happy, listens to commands and can actually meet other dogs. While I didn't embark on this rescue to have the perfect dog, I didn't realize how stressful it was going to be on me. I now can enjoy this little dog and feel good about the rescue. Do not think twice about whether Anna can help you. She can!

My wife and I were very apprehensive about getting a puppy. (Housebreaking accidents, chewing, biting, barking, etc) However, since enrolling in Anna Carinas Puppy Kindergarten class we couldnt be happier. Our puppy, Cash, a Golden Doodle, has been a pleasure and in a very short time has learned the basic commands, and is completely crate trained. As an added benefit on the days he attends class he comes home so exhausted that he sleeps late the following day. I highly recommend this course for anyone who has a new puppy. Thanks for everything, Carina!

Both of my German Shepherds have been enrolled with Anna Carina at the Canine Academy since they were puppies. They have been in her Puppy Kindergarten program, Obedience program, Better Companion training program and Distraction Training program. I visited with and interviewed several trainers before selecting Anna Carina. I found Anna Carina to be approachable, easy to work with and loved the fact that my dogs had access to playtime with other dogs. They also love their pool time and its so convenient that they can board at the Lodge when we are on vacation. Anna Carinas positive and gentle training methods appealed to me, as I am not a fan of yelling, jerking, choke chains, and other harsh training methods. The training at the Canine Academy is very hands on, and I especially like the real world training sessions me and the dogs have had with Anna Carina. We would work together in real distracting environments to make sure my dogs were well-behaved and comfortable anywhere and everywhere, no matter what the circumstances. We are now preparing the dogs for their Canine Good Citizen Certification. My last 2 German Shepherds were never trained, and we really could never take them anywhere due to their issues, so this time around me and my husband decided to do everything in our power to help our dogs become well-behaved, social, confident canine citizens. Thank you, Anna Carina, for all your help, dedication and special care!
